MEDIA, PA — The Delaware County Libraries and the Mad Poets Society are once again teaming up to host the prestigious Delaware County Young Poets Competition. Now in its 35th year, this annual contest is an open call to all young wordsmiths from 1st to 12th grade residing or attending school in Delaware County.

This competition provides a vibrant platform for students to unleash their creativity, explore the power of language, and have their voices heard. The entrants will be assessed by a panel of distinguished local poets, educators, and authors, who will select the top three poems from each grade level. Winning entries will earn a place in the Library’s much-anticipated annual poetry anthology and will also be showcased on the websites of both Delaware County Libraries and the Mad Poets Society.

The deadline for submissions is April 5, 2024. Students are invited to submit their original poems in person at any of the 28 Delaware County Library locations or online. Each submission must be typed on an 8 ½” by 11” paper in MS Word format, and only one poem per student is permitted. To ensure valid entry, students should include their name, grade, phone number, address, parent’s email, and school name at the top right corner of the first page.

The competition will culminate with a grand awards ceremony and poetry reading on May 19, 2024. Winners and their families will receive invitations by email by May 3rd to join in the celebration of their accomplishments.
