PHILADELPHIA, PA — Lederhosen, live music and steins of German-style beer will take over Yards Brewing Company as the Northern Liberties brewery turns spaces normally closed to the public into a sprawling Bavarian-inspired beer hall for its annual Oktoberfest celebration.

Yards will hold the rain-or-shine festival Sept. 26, transforming its outdoor loading dock and portions of its brewery and warehouse at 500 Spring Garden Street. The four-hour celebration will feature German-inspired food, music, games, competitions and four German-style beers brewed for the occasion.

Among them is Unter Dog Oktoberfest Lager, Yards’ returning fall seasonal. Festival-goers can also sample Schnitzengiggles, Festbier and Hefeweizen.

The afternoon will put more than beer-drinking skills to the test. Guests can compete in Masskrugstemmen, the traditional German stein-holding contest, while a costume competition will reward the best dirndl, lederhosen or other Oktoberfest attire.

German-inspired food will round out the celebration, with additional Oktoberfest menu specials and Unter Dog available in the Yards taproom throughout the month.
