LANCASTER, PA — After more than three decades on the air, listener-supported Christian radio station Word FM is extending its reach into Lancaster County with a new frequency at 92.5 FM. The expansion strengthens the station’s coverage across southcentral Pennsylvania and connects its network of nearly two dozen frequencies spanning northwestern Maryland, Bucks County, the Lehigh Valley, and northeastern Pennsylvania.
Executive Director Billy Dunn described Word FM’s mission as “a Christian radio ministry that shares the word through uplifting music and engaging conversations that inspire hearts and strengthen faith.” He added that the Lancaster frequency “helped to fill out our listening map” for fans traveling between Bucks County and the Lehigh Valley.
The station is owned by Four Rivers Broadcasting, founded by Charles W. Loughery, who also launched Radio Delaware Valley and WDVR. Loughery said the Lancaster expansion reflects the company’s ongoing effort to add stations that “naturally expand our coverage area,” noting that the 92.5 FM frequency sits “in between two portions of our periphery.”
The new signal is strongest in central Lancaster County, but Word FM’s audience extends beyond traditional radio. Many listeners stream programming online or connect through their mobile devices, allowing the station to reach a broader audience.
Word FM, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, operates entirely on listener contributions. Its annual fall fundraising drive is set for September 30 through October 3. During this period, supporters can pledge donations by phone or online, and some opt to sponsor an entire day of programming in honor or memory of loved ones.
Founded in 1993, Word FM broadcasts contemporary Christian music, faith-based podcasts, family-oriented shows, and community-driven programming 24 hours a day. With its Lancaster expansion and upcoming fundraising push, the station continues its mission of using music and ministry to inspire and connect communities across the region.
