WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police are turning to the public for assistance as they intensify their search for a hit-and-run driver involved in a disturbing incident earlier this month.

On the evening of December 10, officers rushed to the intersection of South Clayton and Maple Streets following reports of a motor vehicle collision. A pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle that quickly fled the scene, leaving the victim injured on the street. The individual was immediately transported to the hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.

The vehicle involved in the hit-and-run is believed to be a tan minivan or full-sized SUV. In a brazen move, the driver reportedly sped off north on Clayton Street, even though it was in the wrong direction, further endangering other road users.

The Wilmington Police Department’s Traffic Unit is spearheading the ongoing investigation. In an appeal for public cooperation, they are urging anyone with information or video footage related to the incident to step forward.

Sgt. Pete Leccia is the point of contact for this case, and he can be reached at (302) 571-4414 or via email at pete.leccia@cj.state.de.us.

The authorities are counting on the public’s help to bring the driver to justice and provide closure for the victim of this reckless act.
