Wilmington Police Arrest Two Men, Seize Drugs and Firearm During Traffic Stop

WILMINGTON, DE — The Wilmington Police Department’s Safe Streets Task Force arrested two men and confiscated a loaded firearm, crack cocaine, and heroin following a traffic stop on November 1. The arrests were made at approximately 5:54 p.m. in the 100 block of North DuPont Street.

According to the criminal complaint, officers observed a vehicle committing a traffic violation and subsequently stopped it. Upon making contact with the driver, 32-year-old Phil Jones, police took him into custody without incident due to an outstanding warrant. Additionally, 32-year-old Jamar Roane, who was also present in the vehicle, was taken into custody without any trouble.

Following a brief investigation on the scene, officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, 52.5 grams of crack cocaine, and .021 grams of heroin. The seizure of these illicit items underscores the diligent work of the Safe Streets Task Force in combating illegal activities and promoting public safety in Wilmington.

Phil Jones has been charged with several offenses including possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver in Tier 3 quantity, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and second-degree conspiracy. He faces additional charges for traffic violations and an outstanding warrant. After his arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, Jones was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $163,000 cash-only bail.

Jamar Roane faces similar charges, including possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver in Tier 3 quantity, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and second-degree conspiracy. Following his arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, Roane was also committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, with his bail set at $51,000.
