UPPER BLACK EDDY, PA — Calling all outdoor enthusiasts! The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is gearing up for its semi-annual water release from Lake Nockamixon into Tohickon Creek. Scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, March 16 – 17, this event offers a thrilling experience for whitewater boating aficionados in Bucks County.

The Nockamixon State Park dam releases are eagerly anticipated by kayakers, canoeists, and rafters alike from across the Northeastern United States. The water release, set to begin at 4:00 A.M., will create prime whitewater conditions downstream through Ralph Stover State Park from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. each day.

Spectators and boating enthusiasts are encouraged to view the exciting spectacle and partake in the boating activities from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Ralph Stover. Most boaters launch their craft at Ralph Stover State Park, near Pipersville, Bucks County, and navigate approximately four miles along Tohickon Creek to its junction with the Delaware River at Point Pleasant.

However, boaters should note that these are technical whitewater conditions, featuring Class 3 and 4 rapids that require experienced boating skills. All participants should follow the safety code of the American Whitewater Affiliation, wear appropriate personal flotation devices, take precautions against hypothermia, and use only equipment designed for these types of waters.

Additionally, trail users, especially on the High Rocks Vista Trail System, are encouraged to stay on blazed trails to minimize erosion and human impact on the native flora and fauna. Please be mindful of other trail users, keep dogs on a 6-foot leash, and clean up after your pets.
