WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have arrested a man who was wanted on an unrelated matter, subsequently charging him with gun and drug offenses.

On the evening of January 10, members of the Safe Streets Task Force were patrolling the 300 block of East 8th Street when they noticed a vehicle committing a traffic violation. Upon conducting a stop, officers identified the driver as 28-year-old Jahmai Massey.

Following a brief investigation, it was determined that Massey was wanted on an unrelated issue. He was taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search led to the recovery of a loaded 9mm handgun and .112 grams of fentanyl.

Massey now faces multiple charges, including three counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and possession of a controlled substance. After his arraignment in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, Massey was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $43,500 cash-only bail.

As with all criminal cases, the details may change as further information becomes available. It is important to remember that an arrest, a criminal complaint, or charge does not constitute a declaration of guilt. Massey, like all defendants, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
