PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a schedule for bridge inspections on several major highways, including Interstates I-76 and I-95, in Philadelphia and Montgomery counties. These inspections are part of PennDOT’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and integrity of the state’s bridges, with each bridge undergoing an inspection at least once every two years.
Motorists should be aware of the following travel restrictions and plan their journeys accordingly:
In Philadelphia, lane closures are scheduled on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway), I-76, and 34th Street from Monday, March 18, through Friday, March 22. These closures will occur at various times during the day and will affect both northbound and southbound traffic. The most significant disruptions may occur on Tuesday, March 19, when alternating lane closures are scheduled on southbound U.S. 1 between the Ninth Street and Fox Street interchanges from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
In Montgomery County, motorists should prepare for alternating lane closures in both directions on I-76 between the Gulph Mills and the King of Prussia interchanges in Upper Merion Township. This restriction is scheduled for Tuesday, March 19, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these areas, as traffic slowdowns are likely to occur. As always, all scheduled inspections and associated travel restrictions are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
By keeping an eye on the road and planning ahead, motorists can help ensure that these necessary inspections cause minimal disruption to their journeys.
