Unisys, Refroid Target AI Data Center Cooling Demand

BLUE BELL, PA — Unisys (NYSE: UIS) and Refroid Technologies have formed a partnership to deploy and support liquid-cooling infrastructure for artificial intelligence computing, positioning the companies for rising spending on the power-intensive data centers needed to run AI workloads.

The arrangement combines Refroid’s cooling technology with Unisys’ field-services network, covering deployment, commissioning, maintenance and lifecycle support for high-performance computing infrastructure.

The companies are targeting a growing constraint in AI expansion: the physical infrastructure required to operate increasingly dense computing systems. Gartner forecasts worldwide AI spending will reach $2.59 trillion in 2026, including more than $1.4 trillion on AI infrastructure, according to figures cited by the companies.

Refroid provides direct-to-chip and immersion cooling systems, coolant distribution units and hybrid load-bank technology. Such systems are designed to manage heat generated in high-performance computing environments.

Unisys will provide field services around those systems, including deployment, commissioning and validation, technician training, service management and ongoing technical support through its Digital Workplace Solutions business.

“The bottleneck in AI infrastructure is no longer silicon, it is the skilled expertise required to deploy the cooling that silicon demands,” Refroid Chief Executive Officer Satya Bhavaraju stated.

Bhavaraju stated that the Unisys relationship gives Refroid access to technicians capable of installing, commissioning and maintaining its equipment to original equipment manufacturer standards across global deployments.

For Unisys, the partnership expands its services role into the physical infrastructure supporting AI deployments as companies commit more capital to high-performance computing.

“AI is creating new infrastructure demands that extend well beyond the data center itself,” Patrycja Sobera, senior vice president and general manager of Digital Workplace Solutions at Unisys, stated. She described the collaboration as part of the company’s effort to address emerging infrastructure requirements from clients investing in AI.

The companies expect the combination to support faster deployment and commissioning of AI infrastructure while addressing energy efficiency, system reliability and the shortage of technicians with specialized cooling expertise.

The partnership also extends Unisys’ AI-powered service-management capabilities to Refroid installations, with lifecycle maintenance and technical support intended to keep cooling equipment operating as computing requirements change.

The companies did not disclose financial terms of the partnership.
