UPPER CHICHESTER TWP, PA — Drivers traveling through Delaware County should prepare for extended daytime delays as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) schedules lane closures on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) and Bethel Avenue in Upper Chichester Township from October 19 through December 21.
At a Glance
- Roads Affected: U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) in both directions between I-95 and Route 452 (Market Street); Bethel Avenue between the U.S. 322 overpass and Excelsior Drive.
- Dates: Monday, October 19, through Monday, December 21, 2026, on weekdays.
- Times: U.S. 322, 6:00 AM–4:00 PM; Bethel Avenue, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM.
- Reason: Median construction and utility work.
Weekday lane closures on U.S. 322 will allow crews to prepare a new traffic pattern for upcoming bridge construction. Periodic lane closures with flagging will also affect Bethel Avenue during utility work.
The restrictions are part of PennDOT’s $63.4 million project to replace the U.S. 322 bridge over the CSX Railroad and improve approximately one mile of the highway and adjacent Bethel Road. The project is the third of four construction contracts under a broader program to improve 6.7 miles of U.S. 322 through Concord, Bethel, and Upper Chichester townships.
PennDOT warns that backups and delays will occur. Motorists should allow extra travel time, particularly during morning commuting hours. All scheduled work is weather dependent.
