UPPER MERION TWP, PA — Southbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) has reopened near Henderson Road in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, ending a closure that began in late February as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) completed major construction to stabilize the roadway and address recurring sinkholes.

The reopening restores southbound traffic through a section of U.S. 202 that had been closed for more than eight months while crews repaired sinkholes and reconstructed the roadway.
Northbound U.S. 202 between Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard reopened in November 2025 after the first phase of construction. The second phase focused on stabilizing and rebuilding the southbound lanes.
To address the underlying sinkhole problem, contractors drilled a grid of holes through the pavement and injected pressurized grout into underground voids. The process is designed to stabilize the ground beneath the highway and reduce the risk of future sinkholes.
The project also included drainage improvements and pavement reconstruction intended to provide a longer-term solution to recurring roadway failures that had previously required emergency repairs and disrupted traffic.
Although major construction is complete, PennDOT advises drivers to remain alert for occasional short-term lane closures while contractors finish the remaining work.
