PHILADELPHIA, PA — Two Birds is entering the U.S. egg market through Wegmans with a business model that directs a portion of every purchase to childhood hunger relief, tying the new brand’s retail expansion to ongoing support for weekend meals.

The pasture-raised eggs became available at Wegmans starting Sept. 21, with Two Birds planning to expand to additional grocery retailers in the coming months. The eggs are sold in 12-count cartons.

Two Birds is partnering with Blessings in a Backpack, a national nonprofit that provides food to children who may otherwise lack adequate meals on weekends during the school year. A portion of each Two Birds purchase will support that work.

The company is positioning the giving program as a permanent component of the product rather than a temporary promotion.

“This isn’t a limited-time mission. It’s built into every carton, every week,” said Bill Curtis, Two Birds’ vice president of innovation.

Blessings in a Backpack operates through more than 1,100 community-based programs. The organization provided more than 2.7 million hunger-free weekends during the 2025-26 school year and has served more than 1 million children since 2009.

The partnership targets a gap between school-based meal programs and children’s access to food outside the school week. Two Birds cited U.S. Department of Agriculture data showing more than 14 million children face food insecurity nationally.

Nearly 30 million children receive free or reduced-price school meals each school day, according to USDA figures cited by the company.

“Ending weekend hunger is something we can do together,” Blessings in a Backpack Chief Executive Officer Erin Kerr said. “It takes businesses, communities, and individuals coming together to make sure kids have the food they need every day of the week.”

Two Birds sources its eggs from pasture-raised hens on family farms. The eggs are certified humane and produced without added hormones or antibiotics.
