PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers using Tacony Street in Northeast Philadelphia should prepare for two weeks of overnight detours as overhead bridge construction shuts down a section of the roadway on weeknights.
At a Glance
- Roads Affected: Tacony Street between Aramingo Avenue and Bridge Street
- Dates: Monday, Oct. 5, through Friday, Oct. 16
- Times: 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning on weeknights
- Reason: Overhead bridge construction
Northbound Tacony Street drivers will be detoured along Aramingo/Harbison Avenue, then turn right onto Bridge Street to return to Tacony Street.
Southbound motorists will turn right onto Bridge Street, then left onto Aramingo/Harbison Avenue to return to Tacony Street.
Drivers should plan extra time when traveling through the area or along the detour because backups and delays may occur.
The nighttime closures come on top of a longer-term restriction already affecting Tacony Street. Southbound traffic is reduced to one lane between Bridge Street and Van Kirk Street through late 2027 because of I-95 construction.
All scheduled work is weather dependent.
The overhead bridge work is part of PennDOT’s ongoing I-95/BS2 project, which will reconstruct I-95 in both directions between Margaret Street and Carver Street.
