SVP Moves to Full Ownership of Birdsboro Power Plant

Business news

BIRDSBORO, PA — Strategic Value Partners agreed to acquire the remaining ownership interests in Birdsboro Power, consolidating control of a 485-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant positioned within the PJM electricity market as regional power demand continues to rise.

The transaction will give funds managed by Strategic Value Partners full ownership of the Birdsboro facility after initially acquiring a one-third equity stake in May 2025 and assuming management responsibilities for the plant.

The remaining interests are being acquired from Sojitz Birdsboro and Tokyo Gas America. Financial terms were not disclosed.

David Geenberg pointed to increasing electricity demand tied to electrification and data center growth within the PJM region as a factor supporting the investment.

Strategic Value Partners has operated the facility alongside EverGen Power, a power generation asset management firm created in 2024 to support the company’s North American energy investments.

Ari Barz indicated the companies have focused on improving the plant’s commercial and operational performance since the initial investment last year.

Commissioned in 2019, the Birdsboro plant uses General Electric’s 7HA.02 gas turbine technology and supplies dispatchable electricity generation into the PJM Interconnection grid serving the Mid-Atlantic and parts of the Midwest.
