PLYMOUTH TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the closure of Plymouth Road in both directions between Butler Pike and Rittenhouse Square, a key thoroughfare in Plymouth Township, Montgomery County, due to urgent sinkhole repairs. This development follows intensified excavation activities that led to the discovery of a sinkhole, compelling authorities to first shut down the northbound lanes on Friday evening, May 3, and subsequently the southbound lanes on Tuesday morning.

In response to the closures, PennDOT is directing traffic to alternate routes including Germantown Pike, Joshua Road, and Flourtown Road. While this detour is in place, local access to residences and businesses along Plymouth Road will be maintained, ensuring minimal disruption to daily activities.

Motorists planning to travel through or around the affected area are being advised to anticipate delays and budget extra time for their journeys. “Drivers should expect slowdowns and plan for additional travel time,” said a PennDOT spokesperson, highlighting the impact of the repair works on local traffic flow. The duration of the road closure and the associated traffic adjustments are weather-dependent, with efforts being made to expedite the repair process and restore normal traffic conditions as swiftly as possible.

Residents and commuters are encouraged to stay informed about the progress of the repairs and any further traffic advisories.
