Significant Delays Expected as PennDOT Embarks on Safety Improvement Project on State Road

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that a key safety improvement project is set to commence on State Road in Philadelphia. The project, which includes intersection improvements and multi-use trail construction, is slated to begin on Thursday, February 22, with the potential to cause significant backups and delays for motorists.

From February 22 through August 1, between 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on weekdays, State Road will experience periodic lane closures in both directions. The affected area stretches between Pennypack Path and the entrance to the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility. The closures are part of a strategic plan to enhance safety and accessibility for all road users in this busy corridor.

Motorists are advised to anticipate these disruptions and to allow extra time when traveling through the work area. As with all construction projects, the scheduled activities are weather-dependent, and schedules may shift accordingly.
