Second Suspect in June 2023 Attempted Murder Investigation Now in Custody

WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have announced the successful capture of the second suspect involved in the attempted murder investigation from June 2023. William Ackridge, aged 20, was apprehended without incident on August 15th.

Ackridge has been charged with Attempted Murder (First Degree), Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and additional related offenses.

According to the criminal complaint, on June 27 at around 9:02 p.m., law enforcement responded to a shooting incident in the 1200 block of West 4th Street. A 21-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound and immediately transported to the hospital in critical condition. The case was promptly assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division, which identified William Ackridge, 20, and Qasim Pointer, 21, as the alleged suspects.

On August 4th, in the 1100 block of South College Avenue, the United States Marshals Service Task Force successfully apprehended Qasim Pointer. After a short pursuit on foot, Pointer was detained without any incident. During the arrest, authorities discovered that he had a fully loaded .45 caliber handgun and 32 grams of marijuana in his possession.

Ackridge was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $1,106,000 cash-only bail.
