PHILADELPHIA, PA — The roar of classic engines, the rhythm of live music, and the creativity of local artists will fill Ridge Avenue as Roxborough gears up for one of its biggest celebrations of the year.
Roxborough Spring Fest is set to transform the neighborhood into a vibrant, all-day street festival on Saturday, May 9, where families, car enthusiasts, and neighbors can come together to celebrate community pride—and Philadelphia’s 250th anniversary—in one unforgettable day.
Hosted by the Roxborough Development Corporation and the Roxborough Ridge Runners Car Club, the festival stretches from Leverington Avenue to Fountain Street, creating a lively corridor packed with entertainment, food, and hands-on experiences for all ages. With more than 70 local artisans, multiple live performance stages, and a packed lineup of activities, organizers say this year’s event builds on tradition while introducing new features tied to the citywide Philadelphia250 celebration.
One of the standout additions is a special Liberty Bell installation in Pocket Park, connecting Roxborough’s local celebration to the broader historic milestone unfolding across Philadelphia.
“We are so excited to feature Philly 250 and America 250 as the centerpiece of our marquee event,” said Jax Cusack, executive director of the Roxborough Development Corporation. “There is a beautiful sense of history returning home this year.”
Cars, Creativity, and Live Entertainment
At the heart of the festival is the popular “Rockin’ the Ridge” Car Show, where classic, custom, and specialty vehicles line the avenue, drawing crowds from across the region.
Art also takes center stage with the Student Art Show, “Doodle the Dream: The Next 250!”—a collaboration with local schools, Mural Arts, and artist Meghan Turbitt. The exhibit invites young creators to imagine the future of Roxborough and Philadelphia through bold, cartoon-inspired storytelling.
Live performances will keep the energy high throughout the day, with musicians, school ensembles, and dance groups rotating across three stages, including a lineup curated by RoxYunk Porch Fest.
Food, Local Businesses, and Family Fun
From barbecue and funnel cake to neighborhood favorites like Lenny’s Hoagies and Café Roma Bakery, the festival offers a wide range of food and drink options. Visitors can also enjoy craft beverages from Pennsylvania producers while browsing a bustling open-air marketplace featuring local makers, community groups, and small businesses.
Families will find plenty to explore, from hands-on art stations and pottery demonstrations to interactive activities like spin art, bee hive education, and open-air painting. A dedicated Community & Family Zone in Pocket Park will showcase local performers and youth groups in a welcoming, neighborhood-focused setting.
For those looking to recharge, the Community Wellness Village—presented by IBX—offers a calm space with hydration stations, light fitness sessions, and access to local health resources.
“Spring Fest represents our organization’s deepest commitment to the community,” said Jo Ann Desper, board president of the Roxborough Development Corporation. “We are proud to provide a space where neighbors can connect through shared history and local creativity.”
A Celebration With Citywide Impact
Roxborough Spring Fest is one of 20 neighborhood events supported by the City of Philadelphia’s RingItOn! initiative, part of the broader Philadelphia250 effort to bring anniversary celebrations into communities across the city.
The program aims to boost local economies, increase foot traffic, and highlight neighborhood corridors through festivals and cultural events running from April through December.
