LANCASTER, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced adjusted dates for the planned closures of Route 222 ramps in Lancaster County’s Manheim, Warwick, and West Earl townships. The closures, part of a $8.49 million pavement preservation project, are necessary to facilitate overnight paving on the ramps.
The southbound Route 222 off-ramp to Route 772, originally scheduled to close the night of Tuesday, June 3, has been rescheduled for midnight Wednesday, June 4, through 6 a.m. Thursday, June 5. Meanwhile, the Route 772 on-ramp to southbound Route 222 will now be closed from 10 p.m. Thursday, June 5, until 6 a.m. Friday, June 6, weather permitting.
Detour routes will be in place during both closures. Traffic heading southbound on Route 222 and intending to exit to Route 772 will be rerouted via the Route 272 (Oregon Pike) Exit, continuing south on Route 272 to Jake Landis Road, turning left onto Butter Road, and rejoining Route 772. Similarly, traffic on Route 772 trying to join southbound Route 222 will instead head north on Route 222 to the Route 322 (Ephrata) Exit, then return south on Route 222.
The broader preservation project, led by New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., involves milling, resurfacing, base repair, concrete patching, guide rail updates, line painting, and updated signage on Route 222. Work on the northbound lanes was completed in 2024, while progress on the southbound lanes, including intermittent lane restrictions and ramp closures at the Route 772 Interchange, continues this year.
The project, intended to enhance safety and extend the roadway’s lifespan, is expected to wrap up by October 20, 2025. Motorists are advised to remain alert and exercise caution when traveling through the work zone.
