NORRISTOWN, PA — Drivers along U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) in Montgomery County face additional traffic disruptions through the end of December as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) completes paving, intersection improvements, and median construction. The restrictions will affect approximately 1.8 miles of highway through Norristown, East Norriton Township and Whitpain Township, along with three nearby intersections.

PennDOT expects backups and delays throughout the affected work zones. Motorists should plan extra travel time, particularly when approaching intersections where flagging operations will control traffic.

The restrictions are part of a $55 million project to reconstruct and widen U.S. 202, providing two northbound lanes, one southbound lane and a center turn lane between Johnson Highway and Township Line Road.

Additional improvements include five-foot bicycle lanes in both directions, new sidewalks, bridge and drainage repairs, sound walls, updated traffic signals, and technology designed to improve traffic flow.

The project is expected to be substantially completed after median construction concludes in late December. Additional pavement markings, signage and minor construction activities are scheduled for spring 2027.

The work is part of a larger, multiphase effort to improve 9.1 miles of U.S. 202 between Johnson Highway in Norristown and Route 309 in Montgomery Township.
