KUTZTOWN, PA — Rodale Institute awarded nutrition scholar and author Marion Nestle its inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award in Education, recognizing decades of work examining how science, business and public policy shape food choices and nutrition.
Nestle, the Paulette Goddard Professor of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health, Emerita, at New York University, received the honor as part of Rodale Institute’s 2026 Organic Stewardship Awards.
Her research, teaching and writing have focused extensively on food politics, nutrition and the influence of commercial interests on the food system.
Rodale Institute honored Nestle during Climate Week at a Sept. 24 event marking her 90th birthday at WNYC-NPR Studios’ The Green Space in New York City. Food Tank, NYU and Rodale Institute hosted the event.
“To build a regenerative organic future, consumers must understand the vital link between agriculture, nutrition and human health,” Rodale Institute Chief Executive Officer Jeff Tkach said. He credited Nestle with examining those connections before they became a more prominent part of the national food debate.
Nestle’s latest book, “Sugar Coated: Unboxing the Hidden Forces Shaping America’s Favorite Breakfast Food,” co-written with Lisa Sutherland, was released Sept. 8. The book continues her examination of the forces influencing food consumption.
“I fully support the organic movement and want to do all I can to expand its reach,” Nestle said in accepting the award.
Rodale Institute established its Organic Stewardship Awards in 2011 to recognize work related to organic agriculture, soil health, environmental issues and food systems.
The Kutztown-based organization will name additional 2026 recipients in farming, industry and science at a later date.
