WILMINGTON, DE — Qnity Electronics Inc. (NYSE: Q) has introduced a semiconductor sealing material designed to withstand temperatures up to 330°C, expanding its portfolio of components intended to reduce contamination and equipment failures in increasingly demanding chip manufacturing processes.
The company presented its Kalrez 7080 perfluoroelastomer sealing components at the recent SEMICON West conference in San Francisco, targeting manufacturers operating high-temperature deposition, diffusion and oxidation equipment.
Semiconductor fabrication depends on maintaining controlled processing environments, where seal degradation can introduce contaminants, disrupt production and affect wafer yields. Higher operating temperatures place additional demands on materials used in manufacturing equipment.
Qnity said Kalrez 7080 combines high-temperature resistance with low outgassing and minimal metallic contamination, characteristics intended to help preserve processing conditions and extend equipment reliability.
In internal testing, the material underwent 672 hours of thermal aging in air at temperatures up to 325°C. The company reported that the components maintained thermal stability during the four-week evaluation.
The results support the material’s intended use in high-temperature semiconductor manufacturing, although the evaluation was conducted internally rather than under reported customer production conditions.
Applications include thermal atomic layer deposition, metal chemical vapor deposition and low-pressure chemical vapor deposition, along with diffusion and oxidation processes.
These manufacturing techniques are used to deposit or modify materials on semiconductor wafers, making equipment cleanliness and consistent operating conditions important to production performance.
Qnity is positioning the new material to help equipment operators maintain sealing integrity during prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures, potentially reducing maintenance interruptions and contamination-related manufacturing defects.
The launch expands the company’s existing Kalrez portfolio, which includes materials designed for plasma processing, thermal cycling and other demanding semiconductor manufacturing environments.
Among the products featured at SEMICON West was Kalrez 9400, introduced in 2025 for plasma etching and stripping applications. The material is designed to resist plasma exposure while limiting particle generation.
Kalrez 9400 was previously named one of three finalists for the Best of West Award presented by SEMI and Semiconductor Digest.
Qnity also featured Kalrez PF3 components, which combine perfluoroelastomer materials with precision-engineered metal hardware to improve installation consistency and accommodate thermal expansion.
Another product, Kalrez UPHT, is designed for high-temperature plasma processing, with an emphasis on limiting outgassing, particle generation and contamination.
Kate Dei Cas, president of semiconductor technologies at Qnity, said the company’s materials development is focused on manufacturing performance and equipment reliability.
The expanded product lineup reflects Qnity’s focus on supplying specialized materials for semiconductor fabrication equipment as manufacturers contend with tighter contamination controls and increasingly demanding process conditions.
