LANCASTER, PA — A new era in minor league baseball is taking shape as Prospector Baseball Group (PBG) officially launches with plans to acquire the Lancaster Stormers, marking the Atlantic League franchise as the organization’s inaugural team.
PBG, founded by veteran sports executive John Abbamondi and tech investor Ben Boyer, aims to build a “modern, community-driven” baseball collective that blends operational expertise with advanced technology. The group says its model focuses on empowering local club leadership while improving efficiency, fan engagement, and long-term sustainability across its portfolio.
Abbamondi, who serves as CEO, called the acquisition “an immense point of pride,” adding that the Stormers’ existing leadership and community commitment make them an ideal starting point for the company’s broader ambitions. The deal remains subject to customary closing conditions and league approvals.
The Stormers, founded in 2005, are one of the Atlantic League’s most successful franchises, claiming four league championships — including back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023. They play at Penn Medicine Park, a three-time Ballpark Digest MLB Partner League Ballpark of the Year located in Lancaster’s Northwest Corridor.
Outgoing co-owner Rob Liss reflected on the team’s two-decade journey, saying that the Stormers “have become an institution in Lancaster County” and expressed confidence that PBG will “propel the team to new heights.”
PBG plans to keep the Stormers’ focus on local engagement while strengthening operations and investing in top-tier talent development. The organization also intends to maintain Penn Medicine Park as a multipurpose community venue, reinforcing the club’s role as a local gathering place.
The transaction was guided by Hogan Lovells on behalf of PBG, while Brubaker Connaughton Goss & Lucarelli and The Sports Advisory Group represented the Stormers’ ownership.
