PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA — ProgenyHealth has added former federal Medicaid official Melanie Bella to its Board of Managers and named healthcare executive Alec DiDonato chief operating officer as the maternal and infant health company expands its national operations.

Bella brings 25 years of Medicaid experience to the board, including senior roles in federal and state government and healthcare organizations serving Medicaid and Medicare populations.

She is an executive advisor with Cressey & Company and previously chaired the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission, or MACPAC.

Bella was the first director of the Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and previously served as Indiana’s Medicaid director.

She also was executive vice president of policy and duals strategy at Cityblock Health, where her work focused on value-based care for Medicaid beneficiaries and people eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.

“ProgenyHealth’s specialized focus on maternal and infant health, including the needs of Medicaid members and families, is both timely and essential,” Bella said.

DiDonato, meanwhile, will oversee ProgenyHealth’s operational strategy and execution as COO, giving him responsibility for supporting growth and organizational performance across the company’s national footprint.

He brings more than 13 years of experience in healthcare services and most recently served as chief operating officer at Author Health.

DiDonato previously was general manager and senior vice president at Evolent Health, where his responsibilities included expanding operations and supporting organizational growth. His experience also includes using technology and data in healthcare operations and member services.

ProgenyHealth CEO Susan Torroella framed the appointments around the company’s need to scale its operations while adding Medicaid policy expertise to its governance.
