PHILADELPHIA, PA — In a unique blend of community engagement and leisure, Philadelphia has launched its annual pop-up beer garden initiative, Parks on Tap. The event, which began on April 17 at the Azalea Garden, offers a family-friendly atmosphere where attendees can enjoy local brews, food, and outdoor games, all while contributing to the welfare of the city’s parks. This mobile beer garden will make its rounds across 19 parks in Philadelphia until September 29, with a portion of the proceeds dedicated to the maintenance and enhancement of these green spaces.

Operating from Wednesday through Sunday each week, Parks on Tap promises a diverse menu that caters to a wide range of tastes. From local beers, wines, and cocktails to non-alcoholic options like coffee and lemonade, there’s something for everyone. The food selection includes Philadelphia staples such as cheese steaks and hot dogs, alongside healthier options like salads. Notably, the event sees the return of the Love Your Park Pale Ale, brewed by Mainstay Independent Brewing Company. This special ale is crafted not only to quench thirst but to inspire attendees to volunteer and take an active role in their local park’s upkeep.

The initiative is more than just a roaming beer garden; it’s a community gathering that brings together residents and visitors in some of Philadelphia’s most picturesque settings. With first-come, first-served seating, games, and essential amenities like restrooms provided, Parks on Tap ensures a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all ages. Attendees are encouraged to check the Parks on Tap website for specifics on locations and event hours before heading out.

Launched in 2016 through a partnership between Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and Fairmount Park Conservancy, alongside FCM Hospitality, Parks on Tap has grown into a beloved summer tradition. Its mission extends beyond providing a vibrant social setting; it aims to foster a sense of stewardship and connection among Philadelphians towards their local parks. By earmarking a part of all proceeds for each visited park, the program directly contributes to the sustainability and beautification of these vital public spaces.

The schedule for 2024 includes stops at notable sites such as Matthias Baldwin Park, Schuylkill Banks, and the historical Rittenhouse Town, ensuring that every corner of the city gets to host this much-anticipated event. Special weekends like Memorial Day and July 4th are set to see extended celebrations, with Parks on Tap bringing its distinctive blend of community spirit and casual festivity to the holiday weekends.

In essence, Parks on Tap not only highlights Philadelphia’s commitment to preserving and enhancing its green spaces but also embodies the city’s spirit of community involvement and public enjoyment. Through this innovative program, residents are given a tangible way to support their parks, thereby ensuring these treasures continue to thrive for generations to come.
