Philadelphia Set to Host Women’s Pro Tennis Tournament at Penn This August

Philadelphia Tennis Classic

PHILADELPHIA, PA — World-class women’s tennis is making its return to Philadelphia this summer, bringing top-ranked players and global competition back to the city just days before one of the sport’s biggest stages.

The inaugural Philadelphia Tennis Classic, a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 125 tournament, will take over the University of Pennsylvania’s Hamlin Tennis Center from August 23 through August 29. Timed strategically between the Cincinnati Open and the U.S. Open, the event positions Philadelphia as a key stop for players sharpening their game ahead of the final Grand Slam of the season.

Organized by The Philadelphia Sisters and Topnotch Management, the tournament is expected to draw top 100 players from around the world, along with competitors returning from injury or seeking critical match play. The champion will earn 125 WTA ranking points and compete for a share of $115,000 in prize money.

As one of only four WTA 125 events in the United States—and the only one in the Mid-Atlantic—the tournament places Philadelphia firmly on the international tennis calendar while expanding the city’s growing portfolio of major women’s sports events.

To accommodate the anticipated crowds, organizers will construct a temporary 1,200-seat Center Court at the Hamlin Tennis Center, creating an intimate but high-energy setting for fans to experience elite-level tennis up close.

The announcement builds on recent momentum for women’s sports in Philadelphia, following the success of a January women’s basketball event that drew more than 21,000 fans, demonstrating strong regional support for high-level competition.
