Philadelphia Police Seek Public’s Help in Identifying Suspect in Attempted Carjacking

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Philadelphia Police Department has appealed to the public for assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an attempted carjacking that occurred on Hamilton Street.

On November 20, 2023, at approximately 10:42 a.m., a 79-year-old male was exiting his vehicle on the 2000 block of Hamilton Street when an individual allegedly tried to steal his car. The suspect purportedly entered the driver’s seat as the elderly man was getting out.

When the victim resisted, the suspect is said to have pushed him to the ground. A passerby intervened, causing the suspect to flee the scene on foot. As a result of the incident, the complainant suffered injuries to his left wrist and knee.

The Central Detective Division has released a video clip and still photo of the suspect and is actively seeking help from the public to identify this individual. Residents are advised not to approach the suspect if they see him but to contact 911 immediately.

Those with any information about the crime or the suspect can submit a tip via telephone by dialing 215.686.TIPS (8477) or texting a tip to the same number. All tips will remain confidential. Additionally, anyone with information can directly contact the Central Detective Division at 215-686-3093/3094 and refer to Det. Lyons with ID# DC 23-09-043964.

As investigations continue, more details may emerge, and the information is subject to change. It is important to remember that the release of information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest does not constitute a declaration of guilt. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
