PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying a suspect believed to be involved in two commercial armed robberies in the city’s Northwest District.
The first incident occurred on December 31, 2023, at 8:29 a.m., at the Rite Aid located at 164 W Chelten Ave. According to the complaint, an unknown male entered the store appearing as if he intended to make a purchase. When the cashier opened the register, the individual allegedly brandished a silver handgun and demanded cash and cigarettes. He reportedly fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money and 25 packs of Newport cigarettes.
The same individual is also wanted in connection with a second robbery that took place at the Dollar General store at 138 W Chelten Ave on January 8, 2024. Details of that incident have not been released at this time.
The suspect is described as a black male of medium build, who was wearing a blue and black flannel jacket, a black knit hat, and sneakers at the time of the Rite Aid robbery.
Members of the public are urged not to approach the suspect if they encounter him but to call 911 immediately. To submit a tip by phone, citizens can dial 215-686-TIPS (8477) or text the same number. All tips will remain confidential.
Anyone with information about these crimes or the suspect is asked to contact the Northwest Detective Division at 215-686-3353/3354. The case identification number is DC-23-14-68536.
As the investigation continues, it’s important to remind the public that details are subject to change as new information emerges. Also, it’s crucial to remember that a criminal complaint or an arrest does not equate to guilt. Any suspect or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
