PHILADELPHIA, PA — The City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation, which operates both Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE), has recently announced a series of new high-profile appointments to its leadership team. The changes follow a comprehensive third-party review of the department’s organizational structure and an extensive national search for top talent.
Kate Sullivan, previously Vice President of Business Investment and Regional Marketing at the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia, steps into the role of Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). Her tenure began on January 8. Sullivan, who formerly served as Deputy Director of Strategic Partnerships for the Department of Aviation, will now oversee the entire commercial division, which includes air service development, cargo development, concessions, retail, food and beverage, parking, real estate development, and all other commercial activities at the airports.
In welcoming Sullivan, CEO Atif Saeed said, “We were looking for a strategic and innovative leader to lead our dynamic commercial division and are thrilled that we identified the best candidate right here in Philadelphia.” Sullivan will take over several functions currently managed by the outgoing Chief Revenue Officer James Tyrrell, who plans to retire later this year after a 37-year tenure with PHL and PNE.
Another key appointment is Cassie Schmid, who will join the organization as Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) on March 4. Schmid previously held a leadership position within the Strategy and Stakeholder Engagement division at the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC). In her new role, Schmid will be responsible for enterprise-wide strategic planning and performance management, as well as overseeing the Guest Experience, Marketing, and Communications units.
Saeed emphasized the importance of having a clear and focused plan of action to meet and exceed the expectations of the traveling public, adding that Schmid has extensive experience creating data-driven strategies and processes while achieving breakthrough results.
Furthermore, Dr. Jamaine Mungo has been appointed as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), a role he took up on January 22. With over 20 years of cybersecurity experience and a recent tenure as a Cybersecurity Executive at Comcast Advertising, Mungo will now be tasked with overseeing the department’s cybersecurity programs and solutions.
In an era where information security is becoming increasingly vital, Saeed expressed confidence in Mungo’s leadership and strong background in information systems security, risk management, and cyber threat analysis.
As the organization navigates the evolving landscape of the aviation industry, these experienced leaders are expected to play pivotal roles in shaping its future.
