PHILADELPHIA, PA — After a decade-long absence, the Philadelphia Cycling Classic will return on August 30, 2026, reestablishing its place as one of the premier events on the U.S. and international cycling calendar. The announcement was made on Tuesday at City Hall, with city officials, race organizers, and sponsors highlighting the event’s renewed focus on sport, culture, and community.
“Philadelphia is proud to welcome back one of the world’s greatest sporting events,” said Mayor Cherelle L. Parker. “This world-class event will again put Philadelphia on the global stage in 2026, and it will go well beyond next year’s celebration. To the people of Philadelphia and the region: this race belongs to you, and it’s going to be extraordinary.”
The race, last held in 2016, will now be presented by AmeriGas, the nation’s largest retail propane distributor. AmeriGas, headquartered in King of Prussia and a subsidiary of UGI Corporation (NYSE: UGI), signed on as title sponsor to help relaunch the event. “This race represents everything we stand for — being the best competitor, bringing people together, honoring our regional roots, and supporting the neighborhoods that have supported us for generations,” said Mike Sharp, president of AmeriGas Propane.
Ownership and organization of the event are being led by Race Street Partners, a group headed by former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter along with Eric Robbins and Carlos Rogers. Nutter described the Classic as “the people’s race,” emphasizing that it will remain open and free for all to enjoy. “We are beyond excited to be bringing it back in spectacular fashion for generations to come,” he said.
Adding to its reach, 6abc has signed on as the official broadcast and streaming partner, ensuring live coverage of the race across television and digital platforms.
The Philadelphia Cycling Classic’s revival marks not just the return of a world-class sporting competition but also a celebration of community, civic pride, and the city’s enduring connection to cycling.
