PHILADELPHIA, PA — Katherine Gilmore Richardson donated toiletries to support a student-led initiative by West Chester University aimed at providing hygiene supplies to Philadelphia residents, with collections continuing through May 16, 2026.
The Pretty Finer Glow & Give initiative, founded in 2023, collects personal care items such as toilet paper and paper towels for distribution to individuals and families in need across the city.
The program was established by Amika Coleman of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and Journey Washington of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc..
In 2025, the initiative raised more than $800 and distributed hygiene kits through Chosen 300 Ministries, Inc. and other community partners.
“Access to basic hygiene products is essential to dignity and well-being,” Gilmore Richardson said, citing the need to address gaps affecting families.
She said the student organizers are identifying community needs and responding with consistent service efforts.
Gilmore Richardson, an at-large member of Philadelphia City Council, has focused on workforce development, fiscal policy, support for working families and environmental initiatives during her tenure.
