PHILADELPHIA, PA — In a ruling on Tuesday, Philadelphia resident Dashawn Pringle, 27, was sentenced to 125 months behind bars for his role in two chilling carjackings. The sentencing, which includes three years of supervised release, a $300 special assessment, and $1,250 in restitution, was announced by United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero and handed down by United States District Court Senior Judge Timothy J. Savage.

The first incident occurred on the afternoon of April 23, 2022. Victim #1 had momentarily pulled over his 2021 Honda Pilot near the 5100 block of Race Street when Pringle and an accomplice suddenly entered the vehicle. The victim attempted to flee but was pursued, assaulted, and robbed of his wallet, car keys, and vehicle.

A week later, in the early hours of May 1, 2022, Victim #2, a ride-share driver, had just completed a drop-off on the 300 block of South Camac Street. The stolen Honda Pilot, driven by Pringle, rear-ended the ride-share vehicle. After following Victim #2 and flagging him down, Pringle threatened him with a gun and made off with his 2018 Toyota Highlander.

Pringle pleaded guilty on November 28, 2023, to two counts of carjacking and possession of ammunition by a felon.

U.S. Attorney Romero spoke out about the case, stating, “Carjackings are offenses that really undermine public confidence and quality of life… We and our partners on the Carjacking Task Force are working every day to identify, prosecute, and take criminals like this off Philadelphia’s streets, with the public’s safety our number one priority.”

Wayne A. Jacobs, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Philadelphia, echoed Romero’s sentiments: “Sentences like this are a product of the diligent work done by the FBI Philadelphia Violent Crimes Task force… This serves as a reminder that brazen acts of violence will be not tolerated in this city and reinforces our commitment to fostering a safe community for the citizens of Philadelphia.”
