PHILADELPHIA, PA — Phenom is positioning an artificial-intelligence screening tool against increasingly sophisticated candidate fraud, using facial recognition, voice matching and response analysis to flag potential imposters and AI-assisted interviews before employers make hiring decisions.
The Philadelphia-area talent technology company said its Fraud Detection Agent analyzes identity, behavioral and performance signals across multiple stages of the recruitment process rather than relying on a single verification checkpoint.
The technology verifies whether the same person appears throughout interviews using facial and voice matching, flags responses showing indications of AI generation and compares candidates’ interview statements with resumes, portfolios and other submitted materials.
Phenom said the system then compiles its findings for recruiters and hiring managers, leaving the final employment decision to people rather than automatically rejecting candidates.
In enterprise deployments spanning healthcare, early-career recruiting and multinational hiring, Phenom said the technology achieved 87% confidence in detecting duplicate identities. Recruiters validated 76% of responses the system identified as AI-generated, according to the company.
Those results are company-reported performance measures and reflect two different metrics: confidence in duplicate-identity detection and recruiter validation of AI-response flags.
The product is aimed at a hiring problem that has grown beyond resume misrepresentation as remote interviews and generative AI make it easier for candidates to misrepresent their identities or obtain outside assistance during screening.
Phenom cited a Gartner projection that one in four job candidates globally will be fake by 2028. The company argues that fraudulent hires can expose employers to sensitive systems, customer information, financial data and proprietary business processes.
“Hiring teams need a reliable way to confirm that the person they’re evaluating is who they say they are,” John Deal, Phenom’s senior director of product marketing, said.
The Fraud Detection Agent is part of Phenom’s broader portfolio of AI agents for recruiting, employee development and retention. The systems incorporate factors including the position, industry and location when performing their assigned functions.
Phenom’s product was also named a finalist in the Best Bespoke or Specialized AI Solution category of the 2026 A.I. Awards, an international program recognizing applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
