STRASBURG TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is inviting public feedback on plans to replace the aging culvert on May Post Office Road (Route 2015) over an unnamed tributary to Little Beaver Creek in Strasburg Township, Lancaster County. The online display outlines details of the proposed project, which aims to improve roadway safety and extend the lifespan of the crossing.
Built in 1976, the existing structure consists of three corrugated metal pipes spanning roughly 19 feet. The planned replacement calls for a buried precast concrete box culvert with new end sections, as well as upgrades to guide rails, roadway geometry, and pavement within the project limits. Rock will also be placed around the wing walls to prevent erosion and enhance long-term stability.
The project will maintain a roadway width of 30 feet between guiderails and accommodate an average of 5,200 vehicles daily. Environmental reviews, including a wetlands study and historical survey, have already been completed.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027 and last approximately six months. During that time, the bridge will be closed, and a 3.7-mile detour will redirect traffic via Weaver Road, Bunker Hill Road, and Shaub Road. Access to all driveways within the work zone will remain open.
A digital version of the project plans and information are available to view online with public comments accepted through November 24, 2025.
Information, including bridge plans and an interactive comment form, can be found by visiting the PennDOT District 8 website, PennDOT District 8, clicking Projects Near You listed on the left side of the page, then the District 8 Projects, and choosing May Post Office Road over Unnamed Tributary to Little Beaver Creek.
