SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — Aiming to bolster environmental stewardship and enhance roadway safety, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is initiating a significant stormwater management project next week that will span across several state highways in Bucks and Montgomery counties.

Stormwater management is a crucial aspect of maintaining both the integrity of our roads and the health of local waterways. Effective stormwater systems help to prevent the harmful runoff that can carry pollutants from roads into rivers and streams, protecting aquatic life and preserving water quality. This project demonstrates PennDOT’s commitment to maintaining the balance between necessary infrastructure and environmental preservation.

Motorists should prepare for lane closures between Monday, January 8, and Friday, January 12, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The work zones include Route 213 (Maple Avenue), specifically between Woodbourne Road and Wheeler Way in Middletown Township, Bucks County, and Wynnewood Road between Athens Avenue and Argyle Road in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County.

As the work progresses, drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these areas due to potential backups and delays. As with any outdoor work, the schedule is contingent upon weather conditions.

Highway Materials, Inc., a Flourtown-based company, has been selected as the general contractor for this project, financed entirely with state funds.

This initiative is part of a larger $14.9 million project to improve stormwater facilities on over 90 state highways across the Philadelphia region.
