PennDOT Announces Upcoming Bridge Inspections in Philadelphia, Advises Motorists to Plan Ahead

Traffic, flagging

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has issued a notice regarding scheduled bridge inspections on the Girard Point Bridge and other state highways within Philadelphia. These inspections are part of PennDOT’s ongoing effort to ensure the safety and overall condition of these structures.

The planned work schedule will affect several locations over the next few days:

  • On Monday, November 20, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane closure is scheduled on Castor Avenue between Wingohocking Street and Wyoming Avenue.
  • On Tuesday, November 21, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a left lane closure is scheduled on southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) between the Ridge Avenue/Kelly Drive and the Interstate 76 Interchanges.

Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time when journeying through these work zones as slowdowns may occur. The scheduled activities are, however, dependent on weather conditions, and changes to the schedule may occur in the event of unfavorable weather.

These inspections form part of PennDOT’s program to inspect bridges at least once every two years. This practice ensures that potential issues can be identified and addressed promptly, ensuring the continued safety and functionality of these crucial infrastructures.
