SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has issued an advisory for motorists in Philadelphia, Bucks, and Delaware counties, preparing them for a series of roadway disruptions due to essential maintenance activities. These closures, slated for the coming days, are expected to cause significant backups and delays, urging drivers to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
Starting Saturday, March 30, and again on Monday, April 1, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Byberry Road in Philadelphia will be completely closed between Evans Street and Worthington Road for critical bridge repairs. During this period, travelers are advised to reroute via Worthington Road, Southampton Road, and U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) to navigate around the closure.
The maintenance schedule continues into the next week, with Trevose Avenue set for closure from Monday, April 1, through Wednesday, April 3, between Route 532 (Bustleton Avenue) and Route 132 (Street Road) across Philadelphia, Southampton, and Bensalem townships in Bucks County. This closure, running from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, facilitates necessary pipe replacement work. Detours will direct traffic to Route 132 (Street Road), Philmont Avenue, and Route 532 (Bustleton Avenue).
Further disruptions are expected on Thursday, April 4, when Church Road in Radnor and Newtown townships, Delaware County, will be inaccessible between Valley Forge Road/Harrison Drive and St. Davids Road from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for tree removal operations. Motorists in this area should use St. Davids Road, Newtown Street Road, and Waterloo Road as alternative routes.
Finally, on Thursday, April 4, and Friday, April 5, residents of Doylestown Borough and Doylestown Township in Bucks County will face closures on Green Street/Pebble Hill Road between Main Street and Edison Furlong Road from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This interruption is due to pipe replacement efforts, with recommended detours via Edison Furlong Road, Route 611 (Easton Road), and Easton Road/Main Street.
While local access will be maintained for residents and businesses within the affected areas, PennDOT urges all drivers to anticipate slowdowns and prepare for longer travel times near these work zones. The department also notes that all scheduled construction activities are contingent upon favorable weather conditions.
