DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that repair operations will commence this week on the bridge that carries U.S. 1 (State Road) over Darby Creek in Springfield and Upper Darby townships, Delaware County.
Motorists should prepare for potential delays as a right lane closure is scheduled on northbound U.S.1 between North Rolling Road and Township Line Road. The closure will be in effect from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Friday, March 8. PennDOT advises drivers to allow extra time when traveling through the work area as backups and delays are anticipated. As always, all scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Built in 1950, the two-span, steel stringer U.S. 1 (State Road) bridge is a significant piece of infrastructure in Delaware County. It measures 105 feet long and 96 feet wide and accommodates approximately 29,754 vehicles per day.
As we look forward to the completion of these necessary repairs, let’s remember to exercise caution and patience when driving through work zones. These precautions not only protect our safety but also the safety of the workers dedicated to enhancing our roadways.
