PHILADELPHIA, PA — Penn Mutual Life Insurance Co. will distribute a record $360 million in dividends to participating policyholders in 2027, extending a series of annual increases in payouts by the Philadelphia-based mutual insurer.
The company’s Board of Trustees approved the dividend award, which will be distributed to eligible policyholders on their policy anniversary dates in 2027, according to Penn Mutual.
The $360 million allocation represents the company’s largest annual policyholder dividend award. Penn Mutual has increased its dividend allocation in successive years, reflecting its practice of returning a portion of its financial results to eligible insurance customers.
Unlike publicly traded insurers that distribute shareholder dividends, mutual insurance companies operate for the benefit of their policyholders. Penn Mutual has maintained that ownership structure since its founding in 1847.
The annual dividend award is a measure of how the insurer allocates financial value to participating policyholders, although individual payments depend on policy terms and eligibility.
“As a mutual company, we focus on creating long-term value for the people we serve,” said Dave O’Malley, Penn Mutual’s chairman, president and chief executive officer.
O’Malley attributed the record allocation to the company’s financial strength and approach to long-term insurance obligations.
Participating policyholders will receive their dividends according to the payment options they previously selected, with distributions scheduled for their respective policy anniversary dates.
The company emphasized that policyholder dividends are determined annually, may change from year to year and are not guaranteed.
Penn Mutual provides life insurance and annuity products through financial professionals across the United States. The company and its affiliates also operate in wealth management and institutional asset management.
The 2027 dividend award continues Penn Mutual’s practice of distributing policyholder dividends while maintaining its mutual ownership structure, under which eligible policyholders participate in the company’s financial performance.
