PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment will be installed next week on the I-95 Girard Point Bridge in Philadelphia as part of a regional infrastructure upgrade project.
From Tuesday, September 2, through Friday, September 5, overnight lane closures will be in place on both the northbound and southbound decks of the bridge between the Route 291 (Penrose Avenue) and Broad Street/Pattison Avenue (Exit 17) interchanges. Work will occur nightly from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning.
The improvements are part of PennDOT’s I-95 Section GR8 project, which focuses on installing and updating ITS equipment across key regional highways to enhance traffic monitoring and improve safety.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, as delays and backups are expected in the work areas. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
