BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced upcoming paving and line striping work on U.S. 1 as part of a $116 million infrastructure project to reconstruct, widen, and upgrade a three-mile section of the highway in Bensalem and Middletown townships.
The improvements, which are designed to enhance traffic flow and safety, will require a combination of overnight and daytime lane closures beginning Sunday, August 10, and continuing through mid-August.
From Sunday, August 10, through Friday, August 15, lane restrictions will be in place overnight from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM in both directions of U.S. 1 between Fairhill Avenue and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange to accommodate line striping.
In addition, from Monday, August 11, through Friday, August 15, daytime lane closures with flagging will occur on Rockhill Drive between Old Lincoln Highway and Neshaminy Boulevard from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for the same operation.
A more extensive restriction is scheduled for the weekend of Friday, August 15, to Monday, August 18, when one lane of southbound U.S. 1 will be closed between Route 213 (Maple Avenue) and Old Lincoln Highway from 8:00 PM Friday until 6:00 AM Monday. This closure will allow crews to complete bridge deck repairs and paving.
PennDOT is advising motorists to plan for delays and allow additional travel time, noting that traffic backups are expected in all affected areas. The agency emphasized that the construction schedule remains contingent on weather conditions.
This work is part of a multi-year project aimed at modernizing one of Bucks County’s busiest transportation corridors, improving both capacity and long-term durability.
