PHILADELPHIA, PA — Overnight lane closures are scheduled next week on Interstate 95 at the Girard Point Bridge as PennDOT advances a long-term bridge rehabilitation project in Southwest Philadelphia.

  • Reason: Bridge construction and rehabilitation

From Wednesday through Friday, similar restrictions will shift to southbound I-95 between Broad Street (Route 611) and Enterprise Avenue, with a single lane closing at 9:00 PM and two lanes closed overnight.

No detour is planned, but drivers should expect heavy slowdowns through the work zone as traffic is reduced to fewer lanes. Plan extra time and consider alternate routes if traveling overnight.

PennDOT officials said three lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction during peak hours as construction continues. Additional off-peak and weekend restrictions are expected later this year, with long-term traffic patterns anticipated to begin in late July.

The multi-phase project will repair the main Girard Point Bridge and several approach structures, including improvements to the bridge deck, barriers, lighting, drainage, and structural components. Work is expected to continue through early 2031.

All scheduled activities are weather dependent and may change as conditions require.
