PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that overnight closures of northbound I-95 in Center City Philadelphia are scheduled to begin Monday, August 11, to accommodate overhead sign structure installation and barrier removal.

The closures will occur nightly from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM through Thursday, August 14. During these hours, northbound I-95 will be closed between the Washington Avenue/Columbus Boulevard exit (Exit 20) and the Central Philadelphia/Callowhill Street exit (Exit 22).

During the closure, traffic will be detoured via the Washington Avenue/Columbus Boulevard exit. Motorists will then be directed to continue on Columbus Boulevard and re-enter I-95 northbound using the Summer Street or Girard Avenue ramps.

PennDOT advises drivers to plan for delays and allow additional travel time due to expected congestion in and around the detour route.

This work is part of the ongoing $329 million I-95 CAP project, which aims to reconstruct and expand the highway’s overhead cap between Chestnut and Walnut streets to improve infrastructure and community connectivity. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
