PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Alliance for Decision Education has appointed Howard Marks, co-chairman and co-founder of Oaktree Capital Management, to its Board of Directors, effective September 15, 2025.
Marks, a widely respected investor and author, is recognized for his insights on risk management, market psychology, and decision-making. Over more than three decades, he has guided Oaktree’s investment strategies, building the firm into one of the world’s leading asset managers. His memos and three published books on critical thinking and rational analysis are considered essential reading across the finance industry.
“If we can teach people to make high-quality decisions, they’ll have better lives and they’ll contribute to better communities,” Marks said. “My career has been based on analyzing problems and making rational decisions. It’s fun and satisfying and it works. In addition, I’m all-in on educating the young.”
The Alliance, which aims to integrate decision education into all K–12 classrooms nationwide, expects Marks’s appointment to strengthen its strategic direction as it scales its mission.
“Howard’s perspective on how cognitive biases and market psychology impact decision-making will be invaluable,” said Annie Duke, Alliance co-founder. “Having someone of his caliber join our mission is truly exciting for the future of Decision Education.”
Marks’s addition underscores the Alliance’s push to expand decision-making skills as a core component of education, combining academic insight with real-world expertise.
