CECIL COUNTY, MD — The Cecil Soil Conservation District has established the Edgar “Duty” Hevelow Memorial Scholarship to support students pursuing careers in natural resources and conservation, the district announced.
The $3,500 scholarship will provide financial assistance to students studying environmental or agricultural fields at Cecil College.
District officials said the scholarship was created to honor Edgar “Duty” Hevelow and to encourage local students to pursue education and careers connected to conservation and natural resource management.
According to the district, the scholarship is intended to support students preparing for work in areas such as environmental science, agriculture, and related conservation fields.
Recipients will be students enrolled at Cecil College who are pursuing academic programs tied to natural resources or agricultural studies.
The Cecil Soil Conservation District said the scholarship reflects its broader mission to support conservation efforts and strengthen the next generation of professionals working in environmental stewardship.
The district works with farmers, landowners, and community partners across Cecil County to promote responsible land use, soil conservation, and water quality protection.
Officials said the scholarship will provide ongoing support for local students pursuing conservation-focused careers while recognizing Hevelow’s legacy within the community.
