Nordic Pharma Expands Eye Treatment to 2,200 U.S. Practices

Nordic Pharma

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Nordic Pharma Inc. has expanded the use of its LACRIFILL Canalicular Gel to more than 2,200 ophthalmology and optometry practices nationwide, with over 130,000 patients treated as the company seeks to establish a larger presence in the market for dry eye management and post-surgical care.

The Doylestown-based pharmaceutical company, a subsidiary of Netherlands-based SEVER Life Sciences B.V., reported the adoption figures alongside patient survey results presented during the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s annual meeting in New Orleans.

LACRIFILL is used to manage ocular surface conditions, including dry eye symptoms, and in patients undergoing cataract or refractive surgery. The treatment is indicated for up to six months of use.

Nordic Pharma reported that 96% of surveyed patients who underwent cataract surgery within the preceding six months said the treatment made their eyes feel better. Across all patients surveyed, 91% reported improved eye comfort.

The company also cited survey findings showing that 83% of patients who underwent surgery within the previous six months and received at least one LACRIFILL treatment reported reduced discomfort.

The findings are based on patient-reported experiences rather than comparative clinical outcomes. The company did not provide the survey’s sample size, methodology or a comparison with patients receiving other treatments.

Nordic Pharma is positioning the gel as an alternative or supplement to conventional eye drops for patients managing dry eye symptoms and postoperative discomfort.

Jai G. Parekh, the company’s chief commercial officer, said patients with dry eye disease have reported reduced reliance on prescription and over-the-counter eye drops following treatment.

The company is also targeting ophthalmology practices that perform cataract and refractive procedures, where ocular surface management can influence postoperative comfort and visual outcomes.

David Szynkarski, an ophthalmologist at Houston-based Mann Eye Institute, said the treatment has helped patients experience less discomfort following surgery.
