Nighttime Ramp Closure on Route 30 in Lancaster County for Pavement Repairs

Road Closure and Detour

MANHEIM TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced an upcoming closure for the eastbound Route 30 ramp to northbound Route 222 in Manheim Township, Lancaster County, aimed at addressing the need for extensive pavement repairs. Scheduled for Monday night, the closure marks a significant step in ongoing efforts to maintain and improve roadway infrastructure in the area.

Frequent patching attempts have led to the decision for a more comprehensive overhaul. Weather permitting, the ramp will be closed from 9:00 PM on Monday, May 20, until 6:00 AM on Tuesday, May 21. During this period, crews will mill and repave the deteriorated pavement, seeking to ensure a smoother and safer travel experience for motorists.

A detour has been arranged to guide travelers during the closure. Drivers are advised to continue east to the Route 23 East/New Holland Ave/Pike Exit, then make a series of left turns to rejoin Route 222 northbound via westbound Route 30.

This repair could not be undertaken the previous weekend due to the demolition activities on the southbound Route 222 bridge to eastbound Route 30, with contractors requiring ramp access for bridge-related operations.

The extensive interchange improvement project encompasses not only these immediate repairs but also broader enhancements around the Route 222/Route 30 Interchange. Among the slated improvements are the construction of additional lanes on key ramps, the widening of the northbound Route 222 bridge, and the conversion of Route 222 from four lanes to six lanes for a stretch north of the interchange.

As this ambitious project, valued at $72,173,900 and expected to complete by September 3, 2027, progresses, PennDOT urges motorists to remain alert and exercise caution when navigating the work zone. JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, is the contractor leading the charge, tasked with executing these critical infrastructure upgrades in Lancaster County.
