PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced upcoming nighttime lane closures on northbound I-95 in South Philadelphia next week as part of a $37.4 million project to complete high-priority bridge repairs.
From Monday, August 25, through Wednesday, August 27, a single lane closure will be in effect from 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM between Packer Avenue and Christian Street.
The project involves significant work to maintain bridge safety and functionality, including repairs to bridge decks, superstructure components, and substructures. Crews will address weld cracks, reinforce concrete bridge decks, replace expansion joints, clean and repaint 11 overhead steel sign structures, and upgrade roadway lighting to LED luminaires.
IEW Construction Group, Inc., of Hamilton, N.J., is serving as the general contractor. The project is fully funded by federal dollars. Motorists should plan for delays and allow extra travel time, as backups are expected during the overnight closures. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
