SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced plans to carry out bridge deck repairs and inlet replacement on southbound Interstate 476 next week. The work is part of a $63.7 million project aimed at resurfacing, repairing, and improving nearly 17 miles of the interstate, including associated on-and-off ramps and bridges from Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County, to Interstate 95 in Ridley Township, Delaware County.
Motorists are informed that on Monday, November 27, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a single lane closure will be in place on various sections of southbound I-476 between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges.
Similarly, from Tuesday, November 28, through Friday, December 1, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a single lane closure will be enforced on sections of southbound I-476 between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these work areas due to potential backups and delays. All scheduled activities depend on favorable weather conditions.
Under the scope of this project, PennDOT’s contractor, H&K Group, Inc. of Skippack, PA, will undertake numerous tasks. These include milling and overlaying I-476 travel lanes and shoulders in both directions; executing repairs on 49 structures; improving 21 stormwater management basins to address existing rock slope stabilization issues; repairing existing sound walls; replacing inlets at select locations; and installing new pavement markings, delineators, rumble strips, signage, and guiderails.
The project aims to extend the design life and improve the ride quality and safety of the interstate. It will also enhance the current condition of roadside elements such as stormwater basins, drainage inlets, slope stabilization, guiderails, and signs that are in poor condition.
The project is financed with 100 percent federal funds and is expected to be completed in late 2025.
