PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced continued nighttime construction on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) as part of a $36.8 million resurfacing and repair initiative. The project covers nearly five miles, including on-and-off ramps and over 20 bridges.
From September 7 to 13, nightly work from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM will impact traffic flow. Eastbound and westbound lanes between the U.S. 1 and I-676 interchanges will experience closures for surface treatment. Motorists can expect ramp closures from westbound I-76 to Girard Avenue and Spring Garden Street to westbound I-76, with detours in place.
The project entails milling, paving, and bridge repairs, alongside guiderail installations. Drivers should anticipate delays and allow extra travel time. Work is weather-dependent, and PennDOT urges caution through construction zones.
